ABOUT ME
For 20 years, I’ve worked in security and foreign policy in places where official plans meet reality. I’ve developed policies that reduce insecurity, led teams of over 200, and navigated crises in more than 40 countries. I also picked up a fair few life lessons along the way.
We happily lead in these challenging fields. But at some stage, all of us realize that thriving shouldn’t be more difficult than survival. When I came to this realization, I trained as an IFC coach at Georgetown to help people move towards paths that serve them better, both as an advisor and a coach.
I write because the world is an absurd, relentless, wonderful mess that deserves to be documented. Also, I come from a long line of Texan storytellers; I can’t help myself.
Additionally, I am a proud stepmom, aunt, ranch kid, widow, and Texas A&M Senior Junior Meats Judging Champion—a title that no government credential will ever surpass. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M and a Master’s degree from Leicester University.

Why the Art of Holding Fire?
Fire is everything. It’s survival, destruction, renewal. It helps us thrive as primates and burns us when we get too close.
Prometheus stole fire from the gods because he didn’t want the world to suffer in the cold and dark. He paid the price, and changed everything. Fire became the foundation of civilization—forged steel and fueled revolutions. But it’s a fickle thing.
This website is about supporting folks learning how to hold fire with care...Sometimes it’s just about befriending our inner little dumpster fire. Sometimes navigating complexity, survival, missteps, and the ridiculous but beautiful endeavor of trying to be human.
